Lake Fork Carp Buffalo Challenge Tournament - Lake Fork, TX

Welcome to the 1st annual Lake Fork Carp & Buffalo Challenge in Lake Fork, TX, presented by Wild Carp Companies, USCARPPRO magazine and Lake Fork Sportsman’s Association.

 

Lake Fork is home to Common and Mirror Carp that have been known to grow in excess of 35 lbs and Smallmouth Buffalo that are known to grow in excess of 55 lbs.  This venue will prove to be an exciting challenge to all of our competitors as they strive to capture champion Carp and Smallmouth Buffalo.

 

Those looking to purchase bait products on-site—such as corn, range cubes, etc.—are encouraged contact Potts Feed Store (locations in Quitman and Emory) at least 3 weeks prior to the event.

 

Due to fallen timber and standing tree trunks, the Lake Fork Carp & Buffalo Challenge will be a real test to its competitors. Be prepared by researching Lake Fork at the Fishidy website.

Format

 

This is a team-based, 44-hour endurance tournament for Big 4 Carp and Big 4 Smallmouth Buffalo.

 

 

Basic Rules*

 

Teams of two; runners are permitted
Up to three rods per angler; one hook per rod
Proper fish care is required

Catch and release angling
Use of landing mats
Scale-friendly landing nets
Use of knotless holding sacks when awaiting marshals

Weigh marshal must weigh your catch and record your score; both marshal and angler must sign score sheet for fish to be official.
The weigh marshal must oversee the release of each fish.

 

* Full tournament rules must be reviewed and acknowledged by all competitors as part of registration.

 

 

All competitors must hold a valid Texas State Fishing License, which may be purchased at the tournament headquarters, Oak Ridge Marina.

A social and community outreach event to create awareness of coarse species angling.

March 1-3

Competitive angling and awards ceremony.*

 

* There will be a peg draw Thursday, March 1 at 1:00 PM; location T.B.D.

Pre-baiting is permitted from 2:00 – 4:00 PM. Competitive fishing will commence at 4:00 PM Thursday and conclude Saturday at 12:00 PM.

 

An awards ceremony will follow at 2:00 PM; location T.B.D.

 

Oakridge Marina & Motel in Quitman, TX

Competitors are encouraged to reserve lodging at the Oak Ridge Marina & Motel in Quitman, TX, which will serve as tournament headquarters for the Lake Fork Carp & Buffalo Challenge.

 

Oak Ridge Marina & Motel is popular among bass anglers and will be sold out quickly, so be sure to book your room soon.

 

 

Registration

 

Early registration is $400 per two-person team.  The early registration deadline is December 31, 2011.  Registration after that date will be raised to $450 per team.

 

Teams may reserve their entry with a non-refundable $100 deposit.  Full payment must be made by February 15, 2012. Failure to complete registration payment by February 15 will render participants ineligible for the Lake Fork Carp & Buffalo Challenge and any deposits will be forfeited.

In order to help you prepare for climate conditions, please refer to the following information.

The use of shelter such as tents, bivvies, brollies, etc. are permitted throughout the duration of the Lake Fork Carp & Buffalo Challenge. Please refrain from using large (10’ x 10’ or larger) pop-up tents during competition.
